The VTCT (ITEC) Level 3 Certificate in Access to Aesthetic Therapies is the qualification that opens the door to aesthetics for learners with no formal background in beauty therapy training.

 

It is the recognised access route to further study of advanced therapy treatments at Level 4 and above, so it is the sensible first step if your goal is injectables, laser or advanced skin work but you are starting without a beauty therapy qualification behind you.

 

The course is taught at our Liverpool academy on Castle Street, with the theory and assessment work completed through our online student portal in your own time.

UBT285 Skin Analysis and Facial Skincare

• Consultation, record keeping and personal presentation

• Skin analysis, skin diseases, disorders and conditions

• Variations in pigment and the Fitzpatrick scale

• Contraindications, expected reactions and contra actions

• Sensitivity and patch testing, insurance requirements and treatment of minors

• Practical facial treatments, including setting and non-setting masks

 

UBT286 Consultation and Client Care

• Salon requirements relating to client care and communication

• The principles of client care

• The principles of consultation

• Conducting a full client consultation

 

UBT287 Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology Level 3

• The organisation of the human body

• The anatomy and physiology of each body system

• The pathologies associated with each system of the human body

 

UBT288 Electrical Science Level 3

• The electrical science behind facial electrical treatments

• Safe use of electrical treatment equipment in the clinic

• Assessed by written assignment alongside the theory paper

 

UBT289 Maintain Health and Safety in the Salon Level 3

• The principles of health and safety

• Maintaining health, safety, hygiene and security practices

• Following emergency procedures

• The role of a health and safety supervisor

 

HOW THE COURSE IS DELIVERED

 

Week one opens with an induction at 6 Castle Street, where you are taken through the structure of all five units, shown how to set up and organise your portfolio of evidence, and logged in to the online portal that holds the theory and assessments. Academy safety policies, fire exits, student etiquette and the complaints and appeals procedure are covered the same morning.

 

From there the qualification runs as a mix of taught days at the academy and home study. The first unit alone is 16 hours of theory and practical work at the academy plus 29 hours of home study. Total qualification time is 294 hours, and most learners complete inside 6 to 12 months.

 

Practical work begins on each other in small groups, moving on to live models as your technique develops.

 

HOW YOU ARE ASSESSED

 

To be awarded the qualification you must achieve a pass grade in all five mandatory units, the external theory examinations and the practical assessments. Your portfolio of evidence records the learning outcomes for every unit and is built up as you go.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

 

This course is written for learners with no formal beauty therapy background, so no previous qualification is required. The minimum age for entry to the course is 18 years.

 

We also offer ongoing support following training: someone is always on the end of the phone or via email to answer queries.
